Type 2 diabetes group programs
From May 2007 people with type 2 diabetes can access group programs under Medicare.
GP’s can refer patients with type 2 diabetes to the ESRC’s Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Diabetes Educator.
The ESRC will be running two programs:
1) Multi-disciplinary self-management education program
- Specialist advice delivered by the ESRC's Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Dietitian and Diabetes Educator over 8 sessions.
- Topics focus on providing education and practical workshops to promote self-management of diabetes through exercise, nutrition and professional advise from a Diabetes Educator.
- Program designed for individuals requiring a refresher on various topics in the management of diabetes or newly diagnosed.
2) Healthy lifestyle exercise programs
- 8 week exercise program for people with type 2 diabetes who require exercise intervention.

Please note all participants will undergo an initial assessment to tailor program to individual needs.
Participates will be eligible for 8 group sessions with the centres Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Dietitian and/or Diabetes Educator under Medicare (please note this is a free service, no gap fees are involved). Family members and friends are also welcome to attend call the ESRC for further details.
Private Exercise space and or gym facilities are available for the group program. Please note the centre is well equipped with client parking and our reception staff will post out a parking card to participants prior to appointment time.
